Hola from Tiajuana!

My lab results came back and showed that my cancer levels have doubled.  I had another CT scan and it looks like my tumors are growing yet once again.  Once I found out this news, I quickly booked my trip to Mexico.  My mom came with me for this round of treatment and Simon is at home holding down the fort!   I will be here for 6 days.  I met with my doctor this morning and he doesn't seem to think things are as bad as my oncologist in the states thinks they are.  However, they do want to change my course of treatment.

Mom and I got a big laugh this morning.  I had brought with me pictures of my CT scans (one they did back in April 2010 and the most recent one).  I pulled out the pictures, showed my doctor here and asked him about the spot (which I thought was cancer and the "biggest" concern).  He said, "Sonya, that isn't cancer, that's your stomach".  I guess it's a good thing that I am not a doctor--and I don't get paid to read CT results for a living!!

It looks like my course of treatment will be changing.  They are wanting to add a low dose chemo (not like the chemo in the states)--hopefully with much less side effects.  They will continue to follow me here and want to see me back in about 2 months.

Thanks for your continued prayers--I'll keep you posted.

  1. Sonya,

I know we've never met, but I knew Simon when he was stationed in Pensacola. I want you to know that we have been praying for healing and comfort for you and all those who know and love you.

I have a dear friend also fighting cancer. She has a blog as well and I wanted to share that with you - http://chemomom.blogspot.com/.

I'm so glad that the Dr's there don't believe it's as bad as those in the US thought. Good luck and God bless!
